3rd Annual PPS Megaconference:
Pathways to the Promise™ --
Global Connections

Who: All PPS schools (and their K-12 collaborators) are invited to participate in the 3rd Annual PPS Megaconference: Pathways to the Promise -- Global Connections!! (not from PPS?... learn about the {pghpromise} ) There are several levels at which your classes can participate: Session Presenter, Interactive Participant, View-Only. It's up to you to decide your level of interaction.
What: Based on the concept and design of the world-wide Megaconference Jr., ours is a project designed to give students in elementary and secondary schools around the city the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other's learning in real time, using advanced multi-point video conferencing technology. Presenters design and conduct videoconference-based presentations and activities focused on both academic and cultural issues. Interactive Participants are able to address questions to presenters and to collaborate with learning activities that can help build connections among students in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and their collaborators. View-Only participants can watch their peers interact with each other.
With our 3rd Annual PPS Megaconference: Pathways to the Promise -- Global Connections just on the horizon, we are now calling for Session Proposals!! Have students create a 5 minute School Spotlight that highlights a special program or upcoming event, sports or academic team, etc; or have your students (any size group) come up with an Interactive Session that is 15-20 minutes in length. Check out this year's Megaconference Jr. for ideas on the type of interaction desired. Musical presentations are also welcomed!! Proposal deadline is October 23, 2009.
When: The 3rd Annual PPS Megaconference: Pathways to the Promise -- Global Connections will be held on November 19, 2009 from 8:00a to 3:00p.
PPS Megaconference 2009 Planning Timeline:
• Planning Committees Operating: by May 2, 2009
• Logo Contest: by Septmber 11, 2009
• Logo Submissions due: September 23, 2009
• Call for VJs: by September 29, 2009
• Call for Proposals Out: by October 1, 2009
• VJ Dress Rehearsals: Starting October 12, 2009
• Presentation and Activity Proposals due: October 23, 2009
• Technical Testing with Presenters: Starting October 26, 2009
• Event General Registration Open: October 27, 2009
• Presenter Dress Rehearsals: Starting as early as October 28, 2009
• General and Interactive Registration Closes: November 6, 2009
• PPS Megaconference Event: November 19, 2009
Where: Participants from around the city, and their partners around the country and the world will collaborate to share learning activities and experiences.
Why: By creating meaningful experiences that will support PPS Distict Mission and Vision, we will bringing our students together and into the 21st Century of Education.
How: Using the existing technology that our District has, the PPS Office of Instructional Technology plans to help our students find viable Pathways to the {pghpromise} through Global Connections. Registeration opens October 27!!!
